Patrick Mwangangi, Lucy at the charity Plan tells us, is from Kikumini CBO, Makila Village in Kenya. His home is near Makila Primary school where Plan has done school improvement projects.
He is the vice treasurer of Kikumini CBO, and very active in community development work. He is also the chairman of a self help group dealing with dealing with Village savings and loans activity which is doing very well.
Eva, a Programmes Manager for the charity, Plan, based at Matuu explains that "a CBO is a community based organization. It is a legal entity registered under the ministry of social services. The CBO members are the residence of that particular area who elects a CBO management board to coordinate/supervise all the activities/programs of that area. The CBO is recognized by the government of Kenya and all itrher stakeholders working in the area. The CBO management board act as a link /bridge between the community members and the development partners/service providers.
Wikwatyo is one of the CBO's Plan is working with. A CDF (community development facilitator) is one elected from a particular village within the CBO to assist in both sponsorship and program. This is a person who represents the village in community meeting forums and particularly in issues targeting the children. They assist the children to communicate with their sponsors through letters as well as taking photographs for the children.
She adds, that Patrick is a TOT (trainer of trainees) in Village Savings and loans at the community level. He has undergone training in microenterprise development and he is training the village groups on importance of savings and forming groups.
